Chapter 38  : Things Like Working Hard

“Brothers, come in first, and I will tell you how school went.”

The three brothers changed shoes while listening to Tan Mo answer their questions one by one. “School went well today. Although I wasn’t in the same class as Muye, I made a new friend, Ming Yeqing.”

“A boy? You made friends with a boy?” Tan Jinqi changed his shoes and came in, picked up Tan Mo, and went to the living room.

The two brothers scrambled to keep up with each other.

Then, on the couch in the living room, they gathered around Tan Mo.

“Yes.”

Tan Mo saw her third brother’s eyes suddenly widen. “Mo Mo, you have to keep your distance from boys. You can’t be fooled by boys, you know?”

“Except for us, your older brothers, there are no other good boys!” Tan Jinsheng was determined to use all his efforts to nip it in the bud.

“Today, Qin Muxiao led the people in the class to isolate me, and he was the only person who stood up for me,” Tan Mo spoke up for her new friend.

These words alerted the three brothers. They were quick to inquire about what happened. “Did she bully you?”

“Is she in the same class as you?”

“Little Uncle Zhiqian and Muye, as well as Muye’s brother, all defended me. Because of them, Qin Muxiao suffered much humiliation, and my classmates dare not listen to her anymore. She won’t bully me in the future. Don’t worry.”

As soon as Tan Mo finished speaking, the doorbell rang.

They all looked at one another, wondering who would come and visit at this time.

Auntie Guo had already gone to the door.

“Sir, Madam, there is someone sent by Young Master Wei.” After Auntie Guo opened the door, she informed Tan Wenci and Xu Mingzhen.

When the couple heard this, they looked at each other in surprise and immediately waited at the door.

Tan Mo followed curiously.

As soon as Tan Mo went over, her three brothers followed as well.

All of them appeared at the door.

A middle-aged man entered. Seeing them all together, he looked impassive and imposed.

“I’m really sorry for coming here at an inconvenient time. I am the butler of the Wei mansion. My name is Zhou,” the middle-aged man introduced himself.

“Hello.” Tan Wenci’s puzzled eyes fell on the box held by Butler Zhou.

Butler Zhou quickly explained, “Young Master Wei asked me to bring this to Mo Mo.”

“For me?” Tan Mo poked her head out from Tan Wenci’s legs and showed her confused little face.

When Butler Zhou saw Tan Mo’s cute little face, his heart melted.

A smile appeared on his stoic face, and even the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes deepened.

No wonder the young master liked Tan Mo so much.

Who wouldn’t like such a cute and adorable girl?

Butler Zhou opened the box and said, “These are the textbooks and reference materials from Young Master’s primary school. Although the textbooks have been updated these years, the curriculum hasn’t changed. Moreover, Young Master Wei wrote notes in those books. They are convenient for self-study.”

“Mo Mo, what do you want to do with all these?” Tan Jinqi inched forward and looked at the books in the box. There was a huge pile of books.

“I want to study in advance and see if I can skip grade levels,” Tan Mo answered.

She didn’t want to waste too much time in school. She wanted to become intellectually better as soon as possible.

Moreover, she was familiar with most things anyway. What she lacked now was systematic explanation and comprehension.

Advancing one step at a time was a waste of time for her.

“Why are you so eager to skip a grade level?” Tan Jinsheng asked nervously. “Is it because of Qin Muxiao?”

“That’s not it.” Tan Mo shook her head. “I’m not afraid to be in the same class as her, but since she treats me like an enemy, if I keep skipping grades and she stays where she is, won’t she be anxious and frustrated? Let her see the gap between me and her getting wider. What can be more crushing than reality?”

She wasn’t afraid of Qin Muxiao. She wasn’t avoiding her either. She was trying to piss her off instead!

“Mo Mo, don’t be so hard on yourself like for the sake of getting back at an unimportant person.” Tan Wenci was very distressed. “We just want you to grow up happily, without pressures and worries.”

“Yes, as for working hard, you can just leave it to your brothers.” Tan Jinyi patted his not-so-broad chest. “As long as you are happy and comfortable, even if you don’t succeed academically, we can support you in the future.”

“Yeah! When the time comes, I will write your name on the company and ask your brothers to work for you. You’ll only be responsible for collecting money.” Tan Wenci didn’t hold back from expressing how he would exploit his sons in the future right in front of their faces.

The three brothers actually all had their own interests, and they didn’t really want to join the company.

But for their sister, they were willing to put her first.

“No, I have to study hard so I’ll have the power to protect my parents and brothers,” Tan Mo insisted. “Even if you don’t need my protection, I have to have the power. Moreover, my eldest brother wants to be a director in the future, and my second brother likes singing, while my third brother prefers painting. I can’t let them give up their dreams for me.”

“A family, of course, must protect each other. I don’t want to be the most useless person in our family. I want to protect you all!” Tan Mo said seriously.

“Mo Mo!” Tan Jinyi was so touched that tears flowed out of his eyes, and he looked at Tan Mo lovingly.

Tan Jinqi was moved upon hearing his sister say those words. He clenched his fists silently.

It’s because he, as her big brother, didn’t do enough that Mo Mo wanted to protect them at such a young age.

It’s because he didn’t give Mo Mo enough sense of security.

“Moreover, after observing at class today, I found that what I’m learning is really easy. I can remember it after reading it once.” Tan Mo couldn’t say that she had remembered it after 999 years and 364 days. She could only think of a more acceptable excuse.

As for this kind of thing, the less people knew, the better.

However, Wei Zhiqian had helped so much, so she couldn’t hide it from him.

Butler Zhou was Wei Zhiqian’s employee, so she didn’t hide it from him as well.

“When I was in school today, I looked into the content further back into the textbook during my free time. I found that after reading it once, I can remember about 70% to 80%. After reading it again, I basically remembered everything,” Tan Mo explained. “As long as I can use them flexibly, I can basically master it. If I abide by the actual curriculum, it would be a waste of time.”

“Dad, Mom, our Mo Mo is a genius!” Tan Jinsheng declared proudly.

“So skipping a grade is not about angering Qin Muxiao but also because the current progress really isn’t suitable for me,” Tan Mo said.

Tan Wenci thought, ‘Since my daughter is so smart, we can’t delay her development, can we?’

“If that’s the case, then do what you want to do.” Tan Wenci rarely opposed his daughter’s opinions. He always conceded to Tan Mo doing things however she saw fit.

“Just do what you can and don’t pressure yourself. Stop when you feel tired, and don’t rush to hurry forward,” Tan Wenci advised.
