When Yang Feng unlocked the door, he was relieved to see that Zhao Lifei was still sitting on the couch. Even though she was glaring daggers at him for being locked in there, it was better than having her roam about this place unattended.
In all honesty, he expected the two partners in crime to run off somewhere which was why he specifically led them to this escape-proof room.
He rubbed the top of her head, a small smile on his face. "Let me take you on a tour." He offered her a hand which she slapped away while she stood up on her own.
She let out a loud "Hmph," and wrapped her hand around Yang Ruqin’s arm. Both of them sauntered out of the room, leaving behind a group of disgruntled men.
Yang Yulong disliked seeing his younger sister in this place, even if she would be safe here. The environment here was malicious and he did not want her innocent eyes to be tainted with the sins committed in the basement. He supposed this was the very belief that got her injured in the first place. If his family wasn’t so overprotective of her, perhaps she could’ve learned how to defend herself properly.
Yang Feng took Zhao Lifei on a tour of the first few levels. She saw the equipment, the operation rooms, boards with missions, and so on, but nothing interested her. She did not glance at the things he showed her for more than a few seconds.
Yang Feng saw how glum she looked during the entire tour, preferring to look at her nails. "What’s wrong?" He relented, placing a hand on the top of her head, trailing it lower to rest on her upper back.
"I want to see interesting things. All of this, I already expected it." Zhao Lifei deliberately brushed his hand away. "I want to see the infamous Black Room." She placed a hand on his chest and drew circles on the spot.
"No."
"Fine, I’ll go myself." She grabbed Yang Ruqin and stomped towards the elevator.
Yang Feng trailed after her, an arrogant smile on his face. He let her into the polished and squeaky clean elevator and waited for her to press a button. He saw her struggle between the various symbols there. Little did this fool know, accessing the Black Room was going to be a lot harder than she thought.
Zhao Lifei looked at the different symbols on the buttons, resembling the ones found on poker cards. "This is stupidly easy."
Yang Feng quirked a brow. Oh?
"The heart most likely relates to medicine, the diamond ties back to money, the club is for training rooms, and the spade, well, is the basement where the rooms are located." Zhao Lifei pressed the spade button and right on cue, the elevator went on a lockdown mode. She opened her palms and revealed the card she had stolen from Yang Feng.
At the sight of the familiar key card, Yang Feng placed a hand on his chest while going through his suit jacket. It was gone. His head snapped to the perpetrator beside him, his eyes ignited with a dangerous flame out to burn people, starting with the dashing woman who loved to play with fire.
Yang Yulong and Yang Ruqin exchanged brief glances, equally blown away that she managed to steal something from the dragon. In this entire world, only she would be able to get away with that.
"You should update your symbols. They’re so easy to guess, a five-year-old would know how to navigate this place."
Zhao Lifei turned to Yang Feng and pressed her body into his arm, looping one dainty hand around his bicep. "Darling," She sweetly beckoned him, her fingers sliding down to his hand. He acted on reflex and grabbed it.
She leaned up to him, "You’re so easy to trick." She pressed a swift kiss to his cheek, easily distracting him. He opened his mouth but she sealed her lips over it. She utilized the hand that was holding hers, turned it towards the elevator screen and pressed his fingerprints on it.
All of it happened in less than a minute. She pulled back from the kiss, winked, and pointed towards the elevator screen that showed the descending flights.
Yang Feng’s face became black. He foully cursed himself for being so easily distracted by her. She was his weakness and whenever she did something, he could never heartfully reject it.
Yang Ruqin let out a contented sigh, clasping her hand over her heart. She looked at Zhao Lifei as if the woman was a goddess descending from the heavens. She had never seen anyone trick her brother as good as Zhao Lifei had.
’Oh Feng-ge, you love-sick fool...’ She thought to herself, right when Yang Yulong thought, ’Yang Feng, you henpecked idiot!’
"You won’t get away with this the next time." Yang Feng warned her when the elevator door opened.
Zhao Lifei innocently turned towards him, batting her long lashes. "What do you mean?" She continued hugging his arm, resting her head upon it.
"Stop playing dumb."
"What if I said I wasn’t playing?" When they passed by the stoic men stationed in the hallways, Zhao Lifei detached herself from him. She did not want him to be seen as weak by having a woman clinging to his arm.
Yang Feng saw her sudden hesitation and wrapped an arm around her, leaning down to kiss the side of her head. "If you’re dumb, then I must be the town fool."
"I’m glad you know." Zhao Lifei could feel her heart relax at his behavior. He was not afraid of showing her off and publicly displaying his love for her, something she always valued in a man.
Yang Feng let out a small chuckle, deep and resonating down the hallways. It was warm like summer, rich as chocolate; the sound touched her heart, squeezing it. The only thing she could do was look up at him, awestruck by the sight of his laughing face. She doubted she would ever stop questioning how he could be so inhumanly handsome. How did she ever get so lucky to get a man like him? Did she save an entire country in her past life?
Yang Feng could feel her eyes settle on his face. He looked down and with a long slender finger, he tapped her nose. The edge of his lips was lifted the slightest bit. It was barely a smile, but to her, that was enough.
"What are you looking at?"
"The ugliest thing to have graced this Earth." Zhao Lifei did not want to stroke his already inflated ego.
Her words surprised him. No one would be so bold to insult him like this and that was why he loved her so much. He could never predict her reactions and responses. It could be witty one second, then the next, sweet and adoring.
"I wonder why you’re staying with the ugliest thing then." He said, just to entertain her.
Zhao Lifei grinned. "To do my fair share of charity cases."
Yang Feng scowled, his hands coming up to roughly pinch her cheek, tugging it. She yelped in pain, smacking him on the shoulders and nipping at his fingers.
Yang Feng bit his bottom lip to contain the laughter threatening to break out. She reacted the same way he expected an angry and bullied little kitty to react. "It’s not good to bite people."
"Nor is it nice to assault someone’s cheeks." She huffed, rubbing the bright pink area. She angrily pushed Yang Feng’s fingers away when he tried to soothe the area.
"Says the one who did the same thing in my office room."
Zhao Lifei felt her entire face flush at his words. She turned her face to the side, in hopes of hiding the light pink blush. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Hm, sure you don’t." He teased her, holding her just a bit closer to him.
