After finishing her meal with Lu Minhong, Zhao Lifei was planning to drive home but realized it was still bright and early in the afternoon. She recalled her grandfather’s words from the hospital that Yang Feng had bought her a property. Curiously, she wondered if she should ask Yang Feng about it and after careful consideration, called him. He picked up on the first ring.
"Are you alright? Is something wrong?" Was the first thing Yang Feng said, his words taking the senior executives in the meeting room by complete surprise. It was the first time they had seen their boss disregard his work environment just to pick up a call. Usually, his phone was placed as far away from him as possible, but recently, it was always in front of him.
"I was just wondering about the location of the apartment you bought for me..." She trailed off, realizing how shameless she sounded. "I really appreciate the gift and—"
"Your question was perfectly fine, don’t overthink your own words." He chuckled, already knowing she convinced herself of something. "The villa is located in Cerulean Water Pavilions, it’s the second biggest property."
Zhao Lifei’s mouth dropped open in shock. She didn’t know whether to cry or laugh at his words. Was he serious? The cheapest property at Cerulean Water Pavilions is priced at one hundred million dollars! The highly prestigious gated community was known to house only the most opulent personages. Even if one had money, they could not simply purchase land or housing there, it was simply an impossible dream. She remembered the waitlist just to tour or even dream of placing a bid on any of the houses was at least half a decade long!
She was really losing in this gift war, dang it!
Hearing her silence, Yang Feng grew doubtful of the gift. "You don’t like it? It’s alright, I will have another one purchased for you." His words made the executives gag with blood. Who exactly was he speaking to?! Which sane person in this world would see a Cerulean Water Pavillion villa as unworthy?!
"No, no, it’s fine—"
"Just fine? You don’t have to force yourself to like it for my sake. I’ll have a new property under your name by tonight—"
"Hey, hey, I’m the only one allowed to overthink in our relationship! Don’t mirror my bad attributes." She hurriedly said, typing the GPS into the car to drive her way to the community, but found out it wasn’t registered in the map. Of course, it wasn’t, the location was so well-hidden, not just anyone could know where it was!
The edge of Yang Feng’s lips twitched, threatening to break out into a smile at her words. She said ’our relationship,’ did that mean she acknowledged they were a couple? The idea made his heart skip a beat, the action surprising him. "Okay." He readily agreed with her words. With how elated he was, he was willing to oblige any of her demands — even if it was asking for the world to kneel before her!
Zhao Lifei blew out a sigh of relief, her shoulders relaxing. "Where is the address? It’s not popping up on the map."
Still, in a good mood, Yang Feng responded in a fond voice, "I’ll take you there tomorrow."
She grew antsy at his words. Was it right to drag him away from his work? She was worried what other people would think of her, in particular, that secretary of his that she knew did not like her very well. "I-it’s fine, I can go there myself. I don’t want to pull you away from your work—"
"It’s our first marital house, I want to help you tour it." He smoothly said, his words causing a shocked air of silence into the meeting room.
The people in there were astounded at his words, some even spurted out the water had just sipped, while the others had their mouths drop so wide an emu egg could have been placed inside and fit well!
D-did they hear him correctly?! Their emotionless and ruthlessly cold Boss not only used an affectionate voice, warm as the sun on a winter day, but also mention marriage?!
He was married?!
Since when?
Where was the wedding band?
How come they’d never heard of this?
Most importantly, who was the wife? Billions of questions surfaced in their minds, but not a single one was uttered out loud, for they were all too terrified of their Boss’ wrath to ask any questions.
A few of the female employees, in the room who stood by the sides to record the notes, exchanged glances.
There was already a Madam Yang?
Could it be Su Meixiu?
Was that why their Boss went on a sudden emergency meeting?
Was it even a meeting at all?
Was it simply the couple eloping off?!
Zhao Lifei frowned at his words. There he went again, assuming their relationship when he had barely asked her out! She wanted him to, at the very least, formally ask her out the traditional way, instead of declaring their relationship after just a couple of kisses. But she was too stubborn and prideful to tell him that and was hoping he was smart enough to figure that out himself, with the handful of "friend" hints she kept on dropping. Sure enough, Yang Feng was exactly like her: high IQ, but low EQ...
"Who said we were married?" She argued, clutching her forehead, already knowing another argument might erupt sooner or later.
"We will get married soon, why not acknowledge the status early?"
Married soon?! What kind of delusion was he living in? "We’re not even girlfriend or boyfriend! How can you talk about marriage already?" She blurted out, to which Yang Feng’s bright mood immediately dropped.
His tender face turned hard as stone, the bliss in his eyes becoming blizzards that swept across the entire meeting room, sending chills down people’s spines. He stormed out of the meeting room, his sudden departure startled Chen Gaonan who was waiting outside.
"Boss, what’s wrong—" The goosebumps on his arms stood up when his Boss walked past him, a murderous expression on his face as if he was speaking to someone that owed him a lifetime of debt...
"After all of our intimate moments, you see me as a friend?" His voice was destructively calm, not a hint of anger to be discovered.
Zhao Lifei knew one wrong word and there would be another temper tantrum. She sighed, her lips tugging into a frown. "Read between the lines and come to me afterward." She said, hanging up the phone before he could say anything else.
Yang Feng scowled. Read between the lines? What the hell was she talking about?! He glowered at the phone as if it had wronged him and without warning, he slammed the phone to the ground, the device instantly shattering upon the harsh impact.
Chen Gaonan sighed, reaching into his briefcase to pull out another ready-to-use phone with all of the previous information from the other ones. "Is something the matter, Boss?" He slowly said the words, carefully treading as if he was on the thin ice, while he handed the new phone to his Boss with two hands.
Yang Feng breathed in through his nose and out of his mouth in an attempt to calm his raging senses. He understood why she hung up. She didn’t want to start another fight, especially when they just had one so recently.
Yang Feng, who had no knowledge of relationships or even how they worked, sharply turned to Chen Gaonan with a scowl on his perfectly-sculptured face. "How’s your relationship with your wife?"
Chen Gaonan was baffled by the question, his usually composed face went blank in confusion. He rapidly blinked and scratched the back of his head, completely at a loss for words. Huh, that’s weird, I just heard Boss ask me about my personal life..."Pardon my incompetence, can you repeat the question?" He wanted to make sure he was hearing it right.
Yang Feng wasn’t in the mood to deal with his secretary anymore, and instead, walked down the opposite direction and straight into his office with Chen Gaonan tailing behind him. "Wait, Boss, I thought I misheard it! Don’t get mad, I’ll speak, I’ll speak!" He cried out, following his Boss all the way into the cold and desolate office room, the black furniture perfectly matching with his aloof Boss.
Yang Feng sat down on his office chair, elegantly crossing one leg over the other, his posture giving him the appearance of a King rather than a modern man. "Speak."
Chen Gaonan began to sweat buckets, nervously wiping a handkerchief on his forehead. He was so used to complicated questions, that such a simple one was enough to turn his head into a blank space of nothingness...
